Getting back in the swing…

024 030 035

I’m thankful for quiet distractions these days. For early morning garden harvests, lemon cucumbers, and bell peppers.

For Mississippi Silverskin peas, Pink-eyed Purple Hull peas, and Fordhook limas that just won’t wait. They keep me busy.

And give us something to do with ourselves. Something to do that makes us smile at dinnertime. Life is good around here people.

What a beautiful harvest it is!!! Such concentration on your sons face. He's really contemplating that bean or pea. He looks lost in thought. I looked at all my bean blossoms yesterday and realized that I am going to be swimming in beans!

Hello Melissa! What a harvest you're reaping over there in Alabama...wow. I'm glad the garden is keeping you busy and giving you things to do and think about. I've never heard of some of the things you're describing here...Pink Eyed Purple Hulled Peas? And Mississippi Silverskin Peas? How do they taste compared to the normal everyday green peas? I used to love Lima Beans...they were canned of course but I wonder how I'd like fresh ones. My hubby doesn't like them but that's probably the canned kind. Something to think about for next year in the garden! My tomatoes are producing the odd ripe fruit but one of these days I'm going to get a bunch all at the same time..can't wait. The green beans haven't started producing but we should have something in a couple of weeks or sooner. The the new strawberry 'starts' I planted this spring had a slow start but they're really starting to show berries now so I'll have to get out all my strawberry recipes here pretty quick. The yellow squash are REALLY keeping me busy and I'm going to have to start drying my basil sage and parsley today. I am SO grateful to be finally living the farm life. I hope you and your family have a WONDERFUL day Melissa...and if you do come to Kansas...I'll have your cider ready for you! Take care....Maura:)

Diane, it's so much fun gardening with my eager children. Daniel is especially interested in all the garden happenings around here. I hope you enjoy your beans as much as we have ours!

Rhetta, I'm so glad you stopped by! God has been so good to my little family. And you're right, it's the simple things in life that matter.

Maura, one of my favorite things about the south is all of the varieties of peas and beans. Pink-eyed Purple hulls are so very delicious! Similar to a black-eyed pea, but a richer flavor. I'll start canning my tomatoes this week. I hope your plants are as productive as mine have been! And as for yellow squash, mine have been uber-productive too. I've been canning bread-and-butter pickles using my excess squash. They are fabulous this way! : ) Melissa
