The Big Reveal!

065

When we moved into our farmhouse early last fall, we knew we had a lot of work to do.

I’m very happy to tell you that we’ve tackled our first and second major projects:

  • installing hardwood floors in the main living areas
  • remodeling the kitchen

The result is very farmhouse chic, don’t you think?

226

I’m very happy with the granite countertops. There was much debate on which way we would go.

In the end, we decided to invest (it really is an investment, IMHO) in the granite and rework existing cabinetry for the island.

I just love these silvery medallions featured throughout the backsplash.

And these cabinet knobs make me think of old drawer pulls on a piece of antique furniture.

My very favorite thing right now is this hardwood flooring. Sigh. I love the old farmhouse feel of it.

232

And this is my new favorite place. As a matter of fact, I’m sitting here right now!

I feel extremely blessed at this very moment. God is so good! My sweet husband was able to accomplish most of this work while my children and I vacationed on the beach. It would have been quite uncomfortable to live in this space (with little ones, no less!) while it was being torn apart and put back together. The house existed without a kitchen for a full week (gasp!). Now, there are no more floors to vacuum (which was impossible for me to do with my neck). No more stains on the carpet. No more worrying about children traipsing in and out the door. And to give you a little perspective on just how hard my family is on the furnishings around here…

Yep. Everything is now durable in these rooms. I am one happy mama.

CONGRATULATIONS for a job WELL DONE Melissa!! Your husband did a beautiful job. I've always loved your 'favorite place' but with the new floor it looks even better. The floors are BEAUTIFUL..they have a warm patina. By the way...your chair and ottoman are very similar to a set I bought at a garage sale a few years back that is SO comfortable. Your counter is BEAUTIFUL...I love granite and I'm thinking about adding it when we do our kitchen reno. I'm not looking forward to the work but it won't be as much work as the last one we did thank goodness. Enjoy your wonderful renovation! Have a great weekend...Maura :)

Maura, I know what you mean. It is a tremendous amount of work, but it's so very worth the effort. And if you can squeeze it into you budget, I highly recommend the granite. I'll never need another cutting board or trivet again! We cut corners in other areas to make it happen. I hope you have a great weekend, too!

It looks absolutely gorgeous, Melissa. Your DH has done an excellent job. It's such a satisfying feeling to have your home how you want it. I agree with you about the hard floors, I much prefer them to carpet, yours are beautiful.

wow your kitchen and floors look beautiful. We went 9 weeks without a kitchen when we built onto our home. We only had 2 little ones at the time not 3 thank goodness!!! The tradesmen went on holidays and left us with nothing useable in the kitchen. So we used our tiny laundry for dishes and a bbq to cook on.
I won't even go into how we didn't have a bathroom for 12 weeks!!!!!

Sue, I don't think I'll ever complain again! I can't imagine how difficult that was for you all. It would certainly make you appreciative of your modern luxury of indoor plumbing. Don't know what I'd do without it!

Janean, thanks for the sweet compliment. I'm enjoying every minute in these 'new' spaces.

Absolutely beautiful.
One big project that remains in my house is the kitchen remodel. I was thinking of hardwood for the flooring but I'm concerned about junk getting stuck in the cracks. I currently have lovely tiles with grout that is constantly grabbing grime.
I look forward to your review of the materials you have picked. Enjoy your husband's wonderful work. He is very talented.

And tell hubby great job! Kim

Love the cabinet knobs and flooring best. WHO would ever choose carpet over hardwood? Your DH knows/how did all those installations himself!? 0_o

The best phot of the lot Melissa was the one where you showed us the use (abuse) of your furniture. They look like two happy kids. As for the kitchen what a beautiful place to work feeding your family. Thanks for sharing.
