Happy Starter

009

Happy starter makes mama happy…

We’ve I’ve been making lots of sourdough bread lately. I’m happy to report that I tolerate wheat/spelt very well as long as it is allowed a long fermentation period. And really, this is the most nutritious way for anyone to enjoy bread. It can be soooo yummy! You just need to learn how to make it.

Here are the instructions I used for making starter (which worked so well).

Here is Wardeh’s (delicious!) recipe and instructions for making sourdough sandwich bread.

And in case your wondering, here’s why sourdough is so nutritious

No more high-dollar gluten free bread from the health foods store for this family. And admittedly, I was never completely comfortable with the ingredients list on those packages. I really tried, but I was never able to master baking gluten free sandwich loaves (with nutritious ingredients). I feel good about our bread again.

I have an appointment tomorrow. I’m not very excited about it. I’ll be having a painful procedure (you know it’s going to be bad when the doctor forewarns you that it will be painful and you will not be able to have anesthesia! Sigh.) but hopefully we’ll have a better idea about what is going on with the discs in my neck/back. On a better note, my Crohn’s flare seems to have finally subsided. I have traded my oral pain medication for a topical cream that is giving me some relief. I appreciate all your well wishes and prayers more than you can know. Blessings to you!

I'll definitely be praying for you~!

Thanks also for the info on the quilts; my machine is also a kenmore, though much less sophisticated and without computer functions. Aren't they nice? I think their machines are the best of the kinds that you can buy without special ordering for thousands.

Dear Marc's mother comes from a family of seamstresses and she told me to buy that brand.

Your welcome, Berit! I do LOVE my Kenmore. I've always heard their owner's recommend them, so naturally when I upgraded my 20 year old hand-me-down Singer they were at the top of my list. The affordability factor didn't hurt either!

Love the whole cloth quilts, well done, they look great.

I gave up with the sour dough, I loved the process of making it but it never really turned out nice.

Know what you mean (re your 2 Corinthians passage) recently I've felt like Job, this has been going on for several years but this year seems to be getting off to a better start. Praying that you will have better times with your health issues.

Sourdough can be peculiar to work with. The same happens to me, too. No two loaves are exactly the same. It can be frustrating, but I don't tolerate wheat flour any other way, so I persevere. I'm glad to hear that your year is off to a good start! Wish I could say the same...

I'm sorry I missed this with our snow storm....but I hope and pray it went well at the docs. I'll be praying for you. I made some delish sourdough scones last evening...I'll share on Monday. Mmm yum!

I'll be looking for the scones! Sounds delish! I didn't get good news, Diane. But I haven't lost hope. I'll need another surgery, but I'm sure hoping this will be my last. I hate the operating room. :(
